In sync with NEP; SED decides to implement SASE from upcoming academic year

Srinagar, Dec 30 (KNO): School Education Department has decided to implement Student Assessment and Evaluation Scheme (SASE) from the upcoming academic year in sync with New Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) has leant that Central Joint Director for SCERT had said, “The Council has notified

Student Assessment and Evaluation Scheme regarding assessment of students enrolled in all government and government recognized Private Schools upto class 8th of JKUT as a part of NEP-2020.“

“This scheme shall be applicable from next academic session 2023-24,” the joint director said.

It also said that the scheme contents needs to be disseminated to all Heads of Institutions, Teachers and Students for general awareness, by enabling them to understand and prepare themselves accordingly for better implementation at School level.

“In this connection, I am directed to request the concerned stakeholders to circulate the Student Assessment and Evaluation Scheme document to all Schools, Clusters and Complexes to enable them to implement the scheme in letter and spirit at school level,” the Joint Director said.

Earlier this week, KNO reported that the authorities have decided to prepare results of 5th and 8th standard mainly on the basis of academic performance of the student throughout the year from next academic session 2023-24.

Besides, the governing authority has further decided that the uniform question papers will be prescribed by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) for year-end assessment for Classes 5th and 8th.

SCERT has said this in a notification pertaining to ‘Student Assessment and Evaluation Scheme’ upto Class 8th for government and government recognized Schools of Jammu and Kashmir.

Stating the framework and Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs) of the scheme, JKSCERT said that the Head of Schools or complex heads has to ensure that the result of classes 5th and 8th shall be prepared mainly on the basis of academic performance of the student throughout the year.

“Uniform question papers to be prescribed by SCERT for Year End Assessment for Classes 5th and 8th,” it said.

SCERT also said that the students (Potential Learners) shall be identified on the basis of performance and competency in assessment.

“They shall be promoted to next class on provisional basis with arrangement for special teaching of 2-3 months during vacations or beginning of next session followed by re-assessment for grade appropriate competencies and in case of inability to meet the qualification criteria in such re-assessment tool, the student shall be detained,” it reads.

It also states that the ‘Student Assessment and Evaluation Scheme’ shall be implemented from next academic session 2023-24 across the Union Territory—(KNO)

Except possibility of morning showers, hot and dry weather to continue in J&K: MeT

Srinagar, Sept 15(GNS): The weatherman on Friday forecast “hot and dry” weather to continue in Jammu and Kashmir for a week ahead.

According to a meteorological department official, light to moderate rain and thunderstorm occurred at scattered places of J&K .

“Except brief spell of morning rain, weather is very likely to remain hot and dry in Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours,” the official told GNS, adding, “Day temperature was likely to remain 1-2°C lower than yesterday.”

Regarding the forecast from September 16-22, he said, the weather was mainly going to be hot and dry but a brief spell of rain at isolated to scattered places of J&K cannot be ruled out.

“Due to absence of any strong Western Disturbance or Monsoon Current over J&K, there’s no forecast of major rain for a week, at least.”(GNS)

Budgam duo on Scooty die on spot after being hit by a Sumo

Baramulla, Sep 12, KNT: Two persons, one who was driving the Scooty and the pillion rider died on the spot after being hit by a speeding Sumo in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday.

The mishap took place in Hairath Singhpora area of Pattan.

Sources told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that a Sumo (JK15-0782) hit a Scooty ( JK04-E4493). The driver of the Scooty and pillion rider died on the spot. They said both were taken to hospital where doctors declared them brought dead.

The deceased have been identified as Faizian Mushtaq Ganai of Chandakot Bala Magam and Riyaz Sajad Mala, a resident of Yagipora Magam.

Police seized the Sumo, arrested driver and registered a case under relevant sections of law. [KNT]
